Mountain Regional Water NEWS
2011:
Lost Canyon Power Substation
In order to better conserve the massive energy resources needed to pump water from Rockport Reservoir into the Basin, Mountain Regional just completed a 2 million dollar power sub-station improvement near our Lost Canyon Pump Station at Rockport. This 5 megawatt project allows us to take power directly from Rocky Mountain Power's 138 thousand volt transmission lines, allowing us to receive power at a much lower industrial rate. We reduce the voltage through a series of transformers to 480 volts, which is needed to power our massive pumps.

Lost Canyon 5 Megawatt Power Substation
This project is expected to save our customers millions of dollars over the next 20 years, and will also lessen the load impact on Eastern Summit County residents. In the early years of the Lost Canyon Project, we can operate our pumps using off-peak power at night, not only saving money, but reducing the impacts and requirements for generating systems upgrades by the power company. And, by taking service at a much higher voltage - we expect service to also be more reliable.
Summer 2010 and 2011:
Summit Park Infrastructure Improvements
Mountain Regional Water Special Service District is currently in the process of an extensive long term upgrade of its water services in the Summit Park area. This project is a cooperative effort between Summit County Engineering Department, Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District, Gas, Power, and Phone Utilities, and Mountain Regional.

Water Line Break in Summit Park
This project will take place over many years (10 or more) and will involve the complete replacement of the utilities and road. As many know, the infrastructure initially installed in Summit Park was very substandard and poorly constructed. Mountain Regional and the previous Summit Park Special Service District have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars repairing water leaks, some of which ave been massive. This project will effect only a certain area each year. While it will be an inconvenience each year, it will only be in one area at a time.
We request your patience with this important reconstruction project and we know that you will be rewarded with a much safer and effective road and utility infrastructure when completed.
Fall 2009-2010:
Treatment Plant Upgrade

Mountain Regional Water (M.R.W.) is pleased to announce that we received over 1.5 million dollars in a Federal Money stimulus grant through the A.R.R.A. Program (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act), to complete a needed upgrade to our 4 million gallon per day Signal Hill Water Treatment Plant. The improvements include pre-treatment equipment such as plate clarifiers, chemical mixers, sludge handling, and settling equipment to assist in removal of heavy sediments during the Weber River spring run-off periods, and to assist in the removal of organic carbon contaminants. This will make the current membrane micro filtration system more efficient and productive. The improvements further include post-treatment equipment, namely large activated carbon adsorbers, which will assist in the removal of organic contaminants and improve the taste and odor of the finished water. We are grateful for the opportunity to have received funds under this program. These improvement will further our goals to provide some of the safest and most aesthetically acceptable treated drinking water in the State of Utah.
